About the Opportunity
A leading engineering, construction, and infrastructure organization is seeking a High Voltage Engineering Supervisor to provide technical leadership and oversight for utility-scale renewable energy, substation, transmission, and battery energy storage (BESS) projects.
This position is ideal for a technically strong engineering leader who enjoys overseeing multidisciplinary teams, supporting project execution from design through commissioning, and serving as a key technical resource across large-scale power infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, construction, project management, utilities, contractors, and regulatory stakeholders to ensure safe, reliable, and high-quality project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for high-voltage engineering activities associated with renewable energy, substations, transmission systems, collector systems, and battery energy storage projects.
- Supervise and support internal engineering teams, consultants, and technical personnel responsible for design, engineering reviews, construction support, commissioning, and operational readiness activities.
- Perform and oversee quality reviews ofengineeringdeliverables, including:
- One-line and three-line diagrams
- Protection and control schemes
- Electrical studies
- Equipment specifications
- Interconnection documentation
- Construction packages
- Lead technical coordination efforts involving:
- Substations
- Transmission interconnections
- Collection systems
- Protection & Control systems
- SCADA integration
- Energization activities
- Support the development of engineering standards, design best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical guidance during estimating, procurement, vendor evaluations, contractor reviews, and equipment selection processes.
- Support construction and commissioning teams through technical reviews of testing procedures, switching plans, outage coordination, commissioning documentation, and turnover packages.
- Coordinate with project managers, utilities, contractors, engineers, operators, and regulatory authorities to drive successful project execution.
- Resolve complex technical and field-related issues involving design changes, commissioning challenges, schedule impacts, construction conflicts, and equipment performance concerns.
- Ensure compliance with applicable utility requirements and industry standards.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff.
- Stay current on emerging technologies, renewable energy trends, utility requirements, and industry best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Experience supporting:
- Utility-scale renewable energy projects
- High-voltage substations
- Transmission systems
- Distribution systems
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Minimum 5+ years of leadership experience overseeing engineering teams, technical personnel, contractors, and project execution activities.
- Strong understanding of:
- High-voltage substations
- Transmission systems
- Utility interconnections
- Protection & Control systems
- Collection systems
- Experience reviewing engineering deliverables, construction packages, commissioning documentation, and technical specifications.
- Working knowledge of:
- OSHA
- NESC
- NEC
- IEEE standards
- Utility design requirements
- Strong communication, organizational, and project coordination abilities.
- Ability to lead multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Ability to obtain licensure in multiple states.
- Experience working on utility-scale solar, renewable energy, and battery storage projects.
- Experience supporting engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational turnover phases of projects.
- Prior experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams within consulting, EPC, utility, or power infrastructure environments.
- Familiarity with engineering software, design tools, and document management systems commonly used within the power industry.
