The Role
We're seeking an experienced High-Voltage Electrical Team Lead to guide our electrical engineering efforts across our growing pipeline of renewable energy projects. This is a strategic leadership role that blends technical expertise with team mentorship and cross-functional collaboration. The goal with the position is to hire someone that is not only technically sound and enjoys communicating with others, but also for this individual to move into a managerial track as they will have the opportunity to hire and grow a smaller team of HV engineers across the US with support from the VP of Engineering.

This position can sit 100% remote from within the US with up to 15-20% travel. Aside from our HQ that's in the US, most of our team is remote. If desire to relocate to the HQ is preferred, we can support this.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, review, and optimization of high-voltage substations and interconnection facilities for utility-scale renewable projects.
  • Provie technical engineering leadership & guidance on our 1.3 GW pipeline which currently includes utility-scale solar and battery energy storage.
  • Make decisions when it comes to overseeing third party contractors, EOR firms, EPCs, etc. Provide insight into things such as equipment selections, transformer specification, etc.
  • Manage and mentor a small but growing team of electrical engineers and external consultants.
  • Oversee technical deliverables including one-line diagrams, grounding studies, protection & control schemes, and equipment specifications.
  • Collaborate with development, construction, and grid interconnection teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Interface with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and EPC partners to support interconnection applications and compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering standards, workflows, and documentation.

Qualfiications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems focus preferred).
  • 5-7+ years of experience in substation or high-voltage engineering, ideally within renewable energy or utilities. Experience with substation design engineering is pertinent.
  • No previuos solar or BESS experience is fine, T&D and other power generation/utility experience will be considered but previous utility-scale renewable energy is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of transmission interconnection processes, protection systems, and applicable codes (e.g., IEEE, NEC, NESC) a plua.
  • Proven leadership experience and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Must have demonstrated ability and desire to communicate with others and be comfortable in a jack of all trades role with a smaller developer that's growing.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
