Role Overview

The Investment Manager will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and executing solar energy investments throughout Japan. This position will play a key role in driving portfolio growth through acquisitions, project development investments, project financing, and strategic partnerships.

The successful candidate will work closely with developers, investors, lenders, and advisors to assess opportunities and manage transactions from initial screening through financial close.

Key Responsibilities

Investment Execution

  • Evaluate new solar investment opportunities including greenfield projects, late-stage developments, operating assets, and solar repowering opportunities.
  • Develop detailed financial models and investment analyses.
  • Conduct valuation assessments, return analyses, and scenario modelling.
  • Lead commercial, financial, legal, and technical due diligence processes.
  • Prepare investment memoranda and recommendations for senior management and investment committees.

Transaction & M&A Management

  • Support acquisition and divestment transactions for solar projects and portfolios.
  • Lead negotiations with developers, landowners, investors, and external advisors.
  • Assist in structuring joint ventures and strategic partnerships.
  • Coordinate transaction documentation through signing and closing.

Project Finance

  • Arrange debt and equity financing for solar projects.
  • Manage relationships with Japanese lenders, investors, and financial institutions.
  • Support financing negotiations, due diligence processes, and financial close activities.

Market Strategy

  • Monitor trends in Japan's solar market, including corporate PPA developments, repowering opportunities, and regulatory changes.
  • Assess competitive landscape and transaction activity.
  • Identify new investment themes and growth opportunities to support portfolio expansion.

Requirements

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in renewable energy investment, project finance, infrastructure investment, investment banking, private equity, or M&A.
  • Experience working on solar energy transactions in Japan preferred.
  • Experience evaluating renewable energy assets and developing investment cases.

Technical Skills

  • Strong financial modelling and valuation capabilities.
  • Understanding of project finance structures and debt financing.
  • Ability to assess commercial, technical, and regulatory risks.
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills.

Language

  • Business-level Japanese and English.
  • Ability to engage effectively with Japanese counterparties, lenders, advisors, and investors.
