Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Lead Controls & Instrumentation Engineer to lead and manage the controls and instrumentation scope of industrial projects. This role works closely with clients to understand project requirements and is responsible for directing the execution of engineering deliverables from project inception through implementation.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical leadership, client-facing experience, and the ability to manage complex projects while ensuring quality, budget, and schedule expectations are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all controls and instrumentation aspects of projects from concept through execution
- Develop and document project scopes of work
- Size and specify instrumentation, including:
- Pressure and temperature transmitters
- Flow meters
- Modulating control valves, regulators, on/off valves, and actuators
- Create detailed instrumentation datasheets and collaborate with vendors to obtain pricing and technical information
- Coordinate closely with process engineering teams to select appropriate instrumentation and control devices
- Produce engineering deliverables such as schematics, termination drawings, and loop sheets
- Design custom control panels to meet project-specific requirements
- Define and manage project success criteria to ensure client expectations are met
- Develop, track, and manage project budgets and costs
- Identify, document, and communicate scope changes
- Proactively address client issues, needs, and concerns
- Ensure consistent value delivery and build trusted client relationships
- Review and manage all project deliverables for quality and completeness
- Coordinate and supervise project execution, monitoring cost, schedule, progress, and quality
Ideal Background & Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- 10+ years of relevant experience in project engineering, preferably within an EPC firm or engineering consultancy
- Extensive experience as an instrumentation engineer on major capital projects, including:
- Front-end studies
- Detailed design
- Construction support
- Checkout and startup
- Demonstrated ability to lead project execution and ensure client satisfaction
- Proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget
- Strong understanding of front-end and detailed engineering processes
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for building and maintaining client relationships
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD
Preferred
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Strong client-facing and project leadership skills
- PLC programming experience is a plus
