Location: Multiple Southeast & Mid-Atlantic locations available | Remote
A growing multidisciplinary architecture and engineering consulting firm is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Department Head to lead its mechanical engineering team. This leadership role is responsible for department operations, staff development, technical oversight, resource management, and strategic growth initiatives while supporting project delivery across a variety of building sectors.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and designers
- Manage workload planning, staffing, and resource allocation
- Oversee project quality, schedules, and budgets
- Conduct technical reviews of engineering deliverables
- Support the design of HVAC, plumbing, central utility, hydronic, and sustainable building systems
- Collaborate with leadership, project managers, and clients to drive successful project outcomes
- Assist with hiring, employee development, and performance management
- Support business development, proposal preparation, and client relationship growth
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- 15+ years of mechanical engineering experience
- Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams and project workloads
- Strong background in HVAC and building systems design
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and mechanical engineering software tools
- Knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards, and best practices
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
