Position: Associate Director of Mechanical Engineering

My client, a nationally recognized engineering firm specializing in mission critical infrastructure, is seeking an experienced Associate Director of Mechanical Engineering to lead and grow their mechanical engineering team. This role is focused on hyperscale data centers and other high-performance facilities, offering a unique opportunity to shape the future of digital infrastructure.
Role Overview
The Associate Director will serve as a senior technical and organizational leader, overseeing full-cycle mechanical engineering design and contributing to strategic planning, hiring, and policy development. This individual will guide complex projects, mentor engineering staff, and ensure technical excellence across the department.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership (≤50%)
- Lead advanced mechanical design and calculations for mission critical facilities.
- Serve as Engineer of Record (EoR) on major projects and programs.
- Conduct QA/QC reviews and mentor junior engineers.
- Support training and standards development across the mechanical team.
- Utilize AutoCAD and Revit for design documentation and visual aids.
Organizational Development (≥25%)
- Lead strategic planning and hiring for the mechanical engineering department.
- Contribute to company-wide policy development and operational decision-making.
- Manage departmental resources, budgets, and staffing to meet strategic goals.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
Management & Leadership (≥25%)
- Provide coaching and mentorship to team members.
- Lead departmental initiatives and cross-functional collaboration.
- Align departmental goals with broader organizational strategy.
- Monitor performance, conduct reviews, and support professional development.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of industry experience (education may substitute for some years).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- At least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
- Expertise in mechanical calculations, code compliance, and design software (AutoCAD, Revit).
- Strong communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment.

- Travel: Up to 10% across the U.S.
- Physical Requirements: Primarily stationary with occasional movement; may lift up to 25 lbs.
