Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Fish Passage Engineer to lead our fish passage projects in Tacoma, WA. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil or environmental engineering, with a focus on aquatic habitat restoration and fish passage design. This role requires a deep understanding of fish biology, hydrology, and engineering principles to develop effective solutions for fish migration barriers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, planning, and implementation of fish passage projects, including fish ladders, culverts, and dam modifications.
  • Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies to identify fish migration barriers and develop appropriate engineering solutions.
  • Collaborate with biologists, hydrologists, and other stakeholders to ensure project designs meet ecological and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports, plans, and specifications for fish passage structures.
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project team members.
  • Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to fish passage and aquatic habitat restoration.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in fish passage engineering or aquatic habitat restoration.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of fish biology, hydrology, and hydraulic engineering principles.
  • Proven experience in project management and leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, HEC-RAS, and GIS.
