Operations Manager - Water/Wastewater

The Operations Manager will assist the Business Group Leader (BGL), by becoming closely associated with the operations of the various ongoing projects in the BGL's Center of Excellence (COE). The Operations Manager operates as an extension of the BGL and stands in for the BGL when the BGL is away or otherwise unavailable.

The Operations Manager is responsible for the planning and execution of construction operations in conjunction with the Area Manager in their group or COE, focusing on safety, ethics, quality, cost, profitability, monitoring construction activities and meeting customer expectations. Some essential duties the Operations Manager oversees include cost control, scheduling, labor staffing, equipment fleet, and subcontractor trade engagement.

Salary Range: $200,000 - $220,000

Responsibilities:

  • Circulates throughout the BGL's area of responsibility to review the health of the projects as related to profit and loss, cost management and reporting, schedule management and updating, subcontractor management and risk identification and mitigation.
  • Provides advanced leadership to drive development of staff.
  • High-level, intricate involvement in strategic recruitment and staffing, compensation, succession planning, and training.
  • Serves as mentor and coach to regional staff and provides oversight to experienced project staff to advance their careers at Archer Western and improve attraction and retention.
  • The Operations Manager will monitor production for the projects within the BGL's area of influence and focus on areas in which the bid day expectations are not being met or producing more.
  • The Operations Manager will report to the BGL recommendations and changes to increase the production.
  • Develops Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and best practices for the projects within the BGL's area of influence in alignment with corporate strategy; creates project management and implementation plans.
  • Manage project responsibilities for advanced risk assessment, change management, performance and control measures, and rapid project health assessments and recovery strategies.
  • Ensures communication of contractual obligations throughout all phases of multiple projects.
  • Utilizes advanced cost and scheduling control techniques for monitoring and management of concurrent projects as well as disparate enterprise-wide resources.
  • Understands the company's corporate organization and builds an internal network of relationships.
  • Maintains satisfactory external relationships with owners, government officials and public officers, subcontractors, unions, etc.
  • Interacts with the Chief Estimator for the BGL area of influence or region commenting on means and methods and discussing win strategies concerning constructability, productions, approach and General Conditions that are reflected in our project estimates.
  • Identify and mitigate risk or issues before they impact safety, ethics, and quality and profit and loss statements.
  • Participates in claim mitigation, preparation of claims and change order preparation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • 15+ years Project Management experience
  • 20+ years Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant & Facility project experience
  • Estimating experience preferred
  • Must be willing to travel
