Process Mechanical Engineer

We are working with an engineering consulting organization seeking a Senior Process Mechanical Engineer to support capital projects and plant improvement initiatives within industrial manufacturing environments. This role offers a remote work arrangement while supporting facilities throughout the California market, with periodic travel to customer sites for field assessments, troubleshooting, commissioning, and project execution.

This position is well-suited for an engineer who enjoys balancing technical design work with hands-on field involvement and collaborating directly with plant operations and maintenance teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop process and mechanical engineering solutions for manufacturing facilities, utility systems, and production equipment
  • Perform site visits to collect field data, assess existing conditions, and validate engineering designs
  • Support equipment installations, startup activities, and commissioning efforts
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical specifications, process flow documentation, P&IDs, layouts, and construction packages
  • Partner with project managers, engineers, operations personnel, and contractors to execute projects successfully
  • Participate in project planning, design reviews, and schedule coordination activities
  • Troubleshoot process and equipment issues within operating facilities
  • Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable industry standards, client requirements, and best practices
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for improving plant reliability, efficiency, and performance

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or related Engineering discipline
  • 7+ years of process or mechanical engineering experience within manufacturing or industrial environments
  • Strong experience supporting process systems, utility systems, and manufacturing equipment
  • Ability to travel to client sites throughout the Southern California region as needed
  • Proficiency with engineering design and analysis software such as AutoCAD, Fathom, or similar tools
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and priorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working for a consulting engineering firm, EPC, or industrial project services organization
  • Background supporting paper, converting, consumer products, packaging, or related process manufacturing industries
  • Familiarity with project execution methodologies and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Experience supporting projects from concept development through installation and startup
