Project Engineer - Civil Site Development

📍 Location: Fully Remote

🕒 Full-Time

A growing civil engineering consultancy is seeking a Project Engineer to support site development projects with a focus on grading, drainage, stormwater management (SWM), and erosion & sediment control (E&S). This role involves technical design, regulatory coordination, and mentoring junior staff, while supporting project managers in delivering high-quality, cost-effective solutions.


Key Responsibilities

Design & Technical Execution

  • Review zoning, SALDO, and agency regulations applicable to each project
  • Evaluate conceptual layouts for cost and regulatory efficiency
  • Independently prepare preliminary grading plans and SWM due diligence summaries
  • Develop grading and stormwater strategies balancing permitting, budget, and constructability
  • Prepare scopes for infiltration testing and coordinate with geotechnical consultants
  • Produce E&S and SWM/PCSM design calculations, plans, details, and reports
  • Identify necessary waivers/variances and draft justifications
  • Ensure CAD deliverables meet internal standards and oversee final output of grading, drainage, E&S, and PCSM plans
  • Review earthwork calculations and coordinate utility profile plans
  • Prepare complete and accurate regulatory submission packages
  • Respond to agency review comments related to stormwater, grading, and erosion control

Project Coordination & Oversight

  • Manage internal design processes using scheduling tools, kick-off meetings, and team calls
  • Oversee agency submissions and communications in coordination with project managers
  • Conduct quality control reviews prior to submission
  • Assist in defining scope and budget during project initiation
  • Sign and seal engineering plans and reports as required
  • Attend meetings with regulatory agencies when appropriate

Mentorship & Development

  • Actively mentor junior engineering staff
  • Provide constructive feedback and delegate tasks to support skill development
  • Maintain a collaborative and supportive team environment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Strong proficiency in grading, drainage, SWM, and E&S design
  • Familiarity with regulatory permitting processes
  • Experience with CAD standards and plan production
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Commitment to continuing education and professional development
