Position Overview

The client is seeking an experienced Distribution & Transmission Project Manager to oversee planning, coordination, and delivery of T&D projects across the Des Moines, IA region. The ideal professional brings hands‑on experience in distribution construction, transmission line work, and project estimating, with strong leadership and communication skills suited to working with utility stakeholders, engineers, field crews, and subcontractors.

This role is based in Des Moines, Iowa, with hybrid work flexibility preferred. Candidates located in nearby areas and willing to travel into Des Moines weekly are also encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Lead full lifecycle management of distribution and transmission line projects, ensuring compliance with client standards, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, work plans, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, engineers, construction crews, subcontractors, and utility clients.
  • Oversee project documentation, forecasting, progress tracking, and change management.

Estimating & Pre‑Construction

  • Prepare and evaluate cost estimates covering labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor work.
  • Support bid development, proposals, and constructability input for new opportunities.
  • Assist with sequencing, resource planning, and project startup coordination.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for utility clients.
  • Lead project meetings, site reviews, and status communication.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders and promote excellent service delivery.

Safety & Compliance

  • Promote and ensure adherence to all client, OSHA, and industry safety standards.
  • Support safety planning and environmental compliance across all project phases.

Qualifications

Required

  • 3-7+ years of experience managing distribution or transmission line projects within the utility or power delivery sector.
  • Strong working knowledge of T&D construction standards, overhead/underground distribution, and transmission line practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in estimating and budget management.
  • Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Excel) and construction tracking systems.
  • Ability to travel weekly to Des Moines if residing in a nearby region.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Experience collaborating directly with utility companies or EPC partners.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification.
  • Familiarity with NESC standards and utility construction specifications.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid schedule available for individuals within commuting distance of Des Moines.
  • Regular regional travel for sites, client meetings, and project oversight.
