Overview
A leading geotechnical and specialty construction contractor is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join their Phoenix, AZ team. This individual will oversee deep foundation, ground improvement, shoring, and support‑of‑excavation projects across the Southwest region.
The ideal candidate comes directly from a foundations and general contractor background, with hands‑on experience in self‑performed work, shoring systems, and excavation support.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery & Field Execution
- Manage daily operations for foundation, shoring, support‑of‑excavation, and ground improvement projects.
- Oversee self‑performed scopes including drilled shafts, micropiles, soldier piles/lagging, soil nails, tiebacks, underpinning, and related systems.
- Conduct jobsite visits, troubleshoot field challenges, and support field supervisors/crews.
- Ensure compliance with design requirements, specifications, QA/QC, and safety procedures.
Financial & Schedule Management
- Develop and maintain project budgets, cost tracking, and production forecasts.
- Manage change orders, procurement, subcontractor scopes, and payment applications.
- Drive schedule performance and ensure projects meet milestone commitments.
Client, GC, and Stakeholder Coordination
- Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, general contractors, consultants, and inspectors.
- Lead preconstruction meetings, progress meetings, and coordination discussions.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships to support repeat business.
Safety Leadership
- Champion a strong safety culture across crews and subcontractors.
- Conduct site audits, review JSAs, and ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
Preconstruction & Estimating Support
- Review plans, geotechnical reports, and project documents to support accurate bids.
- Assist with quantity takeoffs, constructability reviews, work plans, and technical proposals.
- Provide input on means/methods for shoring, foundation, and ground improvement systems.
Required Background & Qualifications
- Experience working for a foundation contractor or a general contractor with self‑performed deep foundation or shoring work.
- Hands‑on background in:
- Shoring/support of excavation (soldier piles/lagging, soil nails, tiebacks, sheet piles)
- Deep foundations (drilled shafts, micropiles, driven piles, underpinning)
- Ground improvement is a plus
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
- 5+ years managing heavy civil, foundation, or geotechnical construction projects.
- Strong understanding of geotechnical principles and interpreting soils reports.
- Proven ability to manage schedules, budgets, crews, and subcontractors.
- Strong communication and client‑facing skills.
- Willingness to travel regionally to job sites.
