Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and driven Project Manager to lead, coordinate, and oversee electric utility construction initiatives. This individual will be accountable for managing all phases of construction projects-from pre-planning through close-out-ensuring timely, safe, and budget-conscious execution. The Project Manager will also help shape internal systems and methodologies to enhance project delivery and client satisfaction.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct leadership for daily execution and enforcement of the company's safety protocols

  • Collaborate with internal teams to supervise on-site construction activities, ensuring adherence to specifications, budget, and schedule

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the client, internal staff, and field personnel to maintain project alignment and momentum

  • Implement and apply the company's established project management principles and procedures to ensure consistency and quality

  • Monitor and control project performance using the internal Project Controls Reporting System (PCRS)

  • Develop detailed cost estimates and proposals for electrical utility construction projects, including plan take-offs

  • Maintain project budget accuracy, forecast financial outcomes, and ensure profitability targets are met

  • Lead the job setup process, incorporating safety protocols, scheduling, cost tracking, materials, billing setup, and document control systems

  • Identify necessary schedule or budgetary adjustments and guide project teams to maintain alignment

  • Engage with union representatives, subcontractors, and client personnel to manage expectations and resolve challenges

  • Demonstrate leadership in managing utility construction field teams, always ensuring adherence to both company and client standards

  • Provide briefings and updates to field staff and clients, often in a group setting

  • Collaborate with procurement for material purchasing and manage submittal processes

  • Prepare and deliver weekly progress updates to executive leadership

  • Generate and process change orders related to RFIs, design revisions, and customer-driven modifications

  • Work closely with field supervisors to allocate adequate manpower and equipment to meet project goals

  • Approve weekly payroll, equipment usage, and tooling reports

  • Coordinate and oversee all subcontractor work

  • Review and approve invoices and job cost entries to ensure accurate billing

  • Regional travel with occasional overnight stays is required


Skills and Competencies

  • Self-starter with the ability to meet deadlines without close supervision

  • Strong internal client service orientation

  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated leadership in managing personnel and project scope

  • Confident public speaking skills with the ability to present to groups of 20-40 people

  • In-depth understanding of electrical utility construction practices

  • Proven track record of managing project financials effectively

  • Strong proficiency in MS Office tools including Access, Excel, and Outlook

  • Capacity to manage multiple projects across a broad geographic area


Preferred Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a similar discipline

  • 5-10 years of relevant project management or engineering experience, ideally in the electric utility construction sector

  • Expertise in electric utility projects such as substation, and distribution systems


Work Conditions

  • Standing for extended periods (up to 50% of time)

  • Occasional physical activity including bending, reaching, and climbing

  • Regular verbal communication with staff and vendors requiring clear exchange of information

  • Periodic exposure to outdoor elements and conditions

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds on occasion
