PV&BESS Senior Civil Designer
Position Overview
A leading consultancy is seeking an experienced Civil Designer with 6+ years of experience supporting utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System projects. This individual will be responsible for developing civil site designs from early-stage development through detailed engineering and construction support, working closely with civil engineers, project managers, and developers.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D, grading and drainage design, site development, and renewable energy infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed civil site plans, grading plans, drainage designs, erosion and sediment control plans, and access road layouts for utility-scale solar and BESS facilities.
- Prepare construction drawing packages, technical exhibits, and engineering deliverables using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Produce site layouts incorporating solar arrays, BESS equipment pads, substations, collector systems, access roads, and project infrastructure.
- Perform earthwork analysis, cut/fill balancing, stormwater management design, and utility coordination.
- Support project development, permitting, and detailed design efforts through all phases of project execution.
- Coordinate with civil, electrical, structural, environmental, and geotechnical teams to ensure integrated project designs.
- Review topographic surveys, environmental constraints, geotechnical reports, and permitting requirements to inform site design.
- Conduct quality control reviews of drawings and deliverables to ensure accuracy and constructability.
- Provide engineering and drafting support during construction, responding to RFIs and incorporating field revisions when required.
- Assist with preparation of as-built drawings and project closeout documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree, technical degree, or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related discipline.
- 6+ years of civil design experience supporting utility-scale energy, infrastructure, land development, or renewable energy projects.
- Minimum 3+ years focused on utility-scale Solar PV and/or BESS projects.
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Strong understanding of:
- Site grading and earthwork design
- Stormwater and drainage systems
- Roadway and access design
- Utility coordination
- Construction drawings and specifications
- Experience preparing permit-level and IFC drawing packages.
- Strong communication and coordination skills within multidisciplinary project teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting projects from development through construction.
- Knowledge of hydrology and hydraulic modeling software.
- Familiarity with GIS platforms and survey data processing.
- Experience working with EPC contractors, developers, or engineering consulting firms.
- Exposure to substations, collector systems, and utility interconnection infrastructure.
- EIT certification or pursuit of professional licensure.
