Remote HVAC Controls Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Remote HVAC Controls Engineer to support the design, programming, startup, commissioning, and ongoing optimization of Building Automation Systems (BAS) across commercial, industrial, and mission‑critical facilities.
This role is primarily remote and ideal for a controls engineer who is technically strong, comfortable supporting projects and service teams virtually, and experienced with modern BAS platforms and HVAC systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, program, and support HVAC Building Automation Systems (BAS) across multiple project types
- Perform remote startup, commissioning, functional testing, and troubleshooting of HVAC control systems
- Develop, review, and implement:
- Sequences of operation
- Control logic and software programming
- Network architecture and system integration
- Support field teams, service technicians, project managers, and clients with advanced technical expertise
- Integrate HVAC equipment including AHUs, VAVs, chillers, boilers, VRF systems, pumps, and terminal units
- Configure and troubleshoot communication protocols such as BACnet (IP/MSTP), Modbus, and LonWorks
- Build, modify, and troubleshoot graphics and dashboards as required
- Participate in remote point‑to‑point checks, system optimization, and energy efficiency initiatives
- Review drawings, submittals, and as‑built documentation for technical accuracy
- Provide technical input during project turnover, client handover, and escalation support
- Maintain accurate project documentation and commissioning reports
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 3-7+ years of hands‑on experience in HVAC controls / building automation
- Strong experience with startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting of BAS systems
- Proficiency with one or moreBAS platforms such as:
- Tridium Niagara (N4 preferred)
- Schneider Electric (EBO)
- Johnson Controls (Metasys)
- Siemens, Honeywell, or similar
- Solid understanding of HVAC equipment operation and control strategies
- Experience working with DDC controllers, control panels, and field devices
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision
- Strong communication skills for supporting internal teams and external clients
- Comfortable supporting multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred (Nice‑to‑Have) Skills
- Niagara certification (N4 TCP / Advanced)
- Data center or mission‑critical facility experience
- Experience supporting service‑focused contracts (retro‑commissioning, optimization, upgrades)
- Familiarity with SCADA, analytics platforms, or energy management systems
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Visio, or similar documentation tools
- Prior field background before transitioning into a remote or office‑based role
