SCADA Engineer (Data Center)

Position Summary

We are seeking a SCADA Engineer to support mission critical data center environments, delivering reliable monitoring, control, and visualization solutions for critical infrastructure systems. This role focuses on designing, deploying, and supporting SCADA/HMI platforms-preferably Ignition SCADA-and integrating with BMS/BAS systems and HVAC/mechanical plant controls. The ideal candidate is comfortable in the field, thrives in fast-paced operational environments, and understands the reliability, redundancy, and documentation standards expected in data centers.

Key Responsibilities

SCADA / HMI Engineering

  • Design, configure, and deploy SCADA/HMI applications for data center infrastructure monitoring and control (e.g., HVAC plants, cooling distribution, ancillary mechanical/electrical interfaces).
  • Develop and maintain Ignition SCADA projects (preferred): tags, UDTs, alarming, trending/historian, dashboards, navigation, user roles, and reporting.
  • Build intuitive operator interfaces with a focus on uptime, alarm clarity, and operational usability.

Integration & Controls Connectivity

  • Integrate SCADA with BMS/BAS platforms (Niagara, Siemens, Schneider, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, etc.) where applicable.
  • Configure and troubleshoot field communications: BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC UA/DA, MQTT, and related protocols.
  • Interface with PLC/RTU systems and coordinate point mapping, sequences verification, and signal validation.
  • Support networked deployments (working knowledge of VLANs, addressing, firewall rules, port requirements, VPN access, and remote connectivity best practices).

Commissioning & Field Support (60% Travel)

  • Perform on-site commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization for live mission critical sites.
  • Validate I/O, alarms, trends, and control sequences; execute functional performance testing and assist with site turnover.
  • Provide technical support to technicians, controls engineers, operations teams, and clients during deployment and post-go-live.

Documentation & Standards

  • Produce and maintain engineering documentation: FDS/SDS, network diagrams, point lists, alarm matrices, test scripts, and as-builts.
  • Ensure adherence to internal engineering standards and best practices for mission critical deployments (change control, versioning, backups, and disaster recovery planning).

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in SCADA/HMI engineering or controls systems integration (mission critical/data center experience strongly preferred).
  • Experience developing or supporting SCADA/HMI systems (Ignition preferred).
  • Familiarity with industrial/building protocols: BACnet, Modbus, OPC (UA/DA), MQTT (nice to have).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across software, networks, and field devices.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and manage multiple site priorities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel ~60% (often including short-notice site support).
  • Valid driver's license and ability to access customer sites (background checks as required).
