Senior Civil/Site Engineer

A growing civil engineering consultancy is looking to add a Senior Civil Engineer to their Louisville team. This is a strong opportunity for an experienced civil/site engineer who wants to remain close to the technical work while also taking on greater responsibility across project delivery, client coordination, mentoring, and long-term team growth.

The role would suit someone with a strong background in civil/site design who is comfortable managing projects from early planning and design through permitting, construction documents, and construction support. The team is looking for someone who can bring sound technical judgement, communicate effectively with clients and public agencies, and help deliver high-quality engineering work across Kentucky, Indiana, and the wider regional market.

This is not a purely production-focused role. The right person will have the opportunity to take ownership of projects, support junior engineers and designers, contribute to client relationships, and play a meaningful part in the continued development of the local civil team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead civil/site design work across commercial, municipal, institutional, mixed-use, and infrastructure-related projects.

  • Manage projects from initial concept through design, documentation, permitting, agency review, and construction support.

  • Prepare and review grading plans, drainage design, utility layouts, erosion control plans, stormwater management reports, specifications, and engineering calculations.

  • Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors, public agencies, and internal design teams to keep projects moving efficiently.

  • Provide technical review and quality control across drawings, calculations, reports, and permit packages.

  • Mentor junior engineers and CAD/design staff, helping develop their technical capability while maintaining high project standards.

  • Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource coordination.

  • Assist with proposals, client meetings, presentations, and relationship-building where appropriate.

  • Help strengthen the Louisville civil/site practice through a mix of technical delivery, client service, and team leadership.

Ideal Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

  • 8+ years of civil/site engineering experience, ideally within a consulting environment.

  • PE license preferred, particularly in Kentucky and/or Indiana.

  • Strong technical background in site development, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, permitting, and construction documents.

  • Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D.

  • Comfortable managing multiple projects and coordinating with different project stakeholders.

  • Prior experience mentoring junior engineers, designers, or technical staff would be highly valuable.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly when working with clients, reviewers, contractors, and public agencies.

  • Commercial awareness around budgets, schedules, scope, and client expectations.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $100,000 to $160,000 + annual bonus, depending on experience, licensing, technical background, and level of project/client leadership.

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance package.

  • Retirement plan options, including employer contribution or match.

  • Paid time off, paid holidays, and flexibility to support work-life balance.

  • Flexible working schedule, with a culture built around trust, ownership, and accountability.

  • Opportunity to work with a growing regional engineering team that offers clear long-term progression.

  • Exposure to varied civil/site projects across public, private, municipal, institutional, and infrastructure-related markets.

  • Opportunity to take on meaningful project ownership rather than being limited to narrow production work.

  • Supportive team environment with access to experienced technical leadership.

  • Mentorship and professional development support for continued career growth.
