Role Overview

A Senior Control Systems Engineer is responsible for interpreting user requirements, evaluating process or mechanical system designs, and developing automation solutions that control equipment and processes effectively. This role requires strong knowledge of industrial instrumentation, control valves, motor systems, variable‑frequency drives, electrical design, and PLC/DCS programming. The position involves leading controls engineering efforts and ensuring automation solutions are delivered using practical, efficient design.

This role reports to the Operations Director.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with clients to develop User Requirements and project documentation
  • Lead hardware and software execution for control system projects
  • Create control narratives and functional specifications based on user needs
  • Conduct feasibility assessments, including cost estimates and supporting documents
  • Review and update P&IDs for instrumentation and control changes
  • Design low‑voltage control drawings (up to 480V), including panel layouts, loop sheets, I/O schedules, and network diagrams
  • Develop or oversee development of PLC/DCS programs
  • Configure HMI and SCADA systems
  • Set up historian systems and data logging
  • Create and execute detailed test plans for PLC/DCS program validation
  • Simulate control system logic to verify correct operation
  • Support onsite construction and ensure installations align with design documents
  • Perform I/O checkout and document results
  • Provide commissioning and post‑startup support to operations and maintenance teams
  • Travel to client sites as needed for meetings, commissioning, or troubleshooting

Required Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical), Computer Science, or a related technical field

Preferred Experience

  • ~10 years of experience in control systems or a similar engineering discipline
  • 5+ years working with at least one majorPLC orDCS platform such as:
    • Allen‑Bradley (PLC5, SLC500, MicroLogix, ControlLogix)
    • Siemens (S7, PCS7)
    • Emerson (DeltaV, Ovation, Provox)
    • Novatech D/3
    • Honeywell Experion
    • Foxboro I/A
  • HMI/SCADA development experience with platforms such as:
    • Rockwell Automation, Inductive Automation, Wonderware, Siemens, Iconics, iFix
  • Historian or dataanalytics experience with systems like:
    • OSIsoft PI, Ignition, Aspentech, Thingworx, Rockwell, Siemens, Wonderware
  • Strong understanding of instrumentation, motor systems, VFDs, and integrated drive systems
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and ability to reference and apply code requirements
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred
  • Experience designing electrical panels, I/O systems, motion control, VFD systems, and industrial networks
  • Hands‑on troubleshooting experience in industrial facilities
  • Industry exposure in sectors such as food & beverage, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, water/wastewater, refining, power, oil/gas pipelines, material handling, or packaging
  • Leadership experience and ability to work directly with clients

Compensation & Benefits

Job Title: Senior Control Systems Engineer
Salary Range: $100,000 - $160,000 annually (plus incentive pay)
Salary depends on experience, education, skills, and internal equity.
