Senior Roadway Drainage Engineer

Location: Texas (Relocation Assistance Available)

Our client is seeking a Senior Roadway Drainage Engineer to support and help grow their transportation drainage practice. This individual will be responsible for the planning, analysis, and design of drainage systems for TxDOT transportation projects while also contributing to business development efforts, client relationships, and mentoring junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead drainage and hydrology/hydraulics (H&H) design for TxDOT roadway and transportation projects.
  • Perform and oversee drainage studies, storm sewer design, culvert analysis, bridge hydraulics, detention design, and floodplain evaluations.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, technical quality, and deliverables.
  • Utilize existing TxDOT pre-certifications and support the expansion of transportation drainage capabilities.
  • Assist with business development efforts, proposal preparation, project pursuits, and client engagement.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with TxDOT, municipalities, counties, and other public agencies.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Coordinate with roadway, bridge, traffic, and environmental teams to deliver successful transportation projects.
  • Serve as a technical resource and client-facing representative for drainage-related issues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Approximately 6-10+ years of drainage/H&H experience, with flexibility based on overall qualifications and business development capabilities.
  • Strong experience supporting TxDOT transportation projects.
  • Existing TxDOT pre-certifications preferred.
  • Proficiency with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, GEOPAK Drainage, OpenRoads Drainage, HY-8, or similar drainage modeling software.
  • Understanding of FEMA regulations, floodplain management, and TxDOT drainage criteria.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to business development and help win work.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring abilities.

Preferred Experience

  • TxDOT drainage design and project management experience.
  • Existing relationships with TxDOT districts and local agencies.
  • Proposal development, interview, and pursuit experience.
  • Experience serving as a drainage task lead or project manager on transportation projects.
  • Bridge hydraulics, watershed studies, and FEMA coordination experience.
