Senior Estimator, Fire Protection
Our client, a well-established Mechanical contractor, is seeking a Senior Fire Protection Estimator to lead pricing efforts for complex sprinkler and specialty suppression projects. This individual will take ownership of the estimating process from initial document review through proposal submission, while supporting risk analysis, value engineering, and project handoff.
This is a senior-level role with influence across estimating strategy, mentoring, and coordination with project delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead detailed cost estimates for fire protection systems, including wet, dry, pre-action, and specialty suppression systems
- Review drawings, specifications, and contracts with strong knowledge of NFPA codes and fire protection scope
- Identify scope gaps, design issues, and risk items; drive clarification as needed
- Perform quantity takeoffs for piping, fittings, valves, heads, and associated equipment
- Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and vendor pricing
- Collaborate with engineering, project management, and field teams to confirm constructability
- Prepare clear proposals outlining scope, assumptions, and qualifications
- Participate in bid reviews, client meetings, and estimate presentations
- Support value engineering initiatives and cost-saving alternatives
- Ensure smooth knowledge transfer to operations after project award
- Mentor junior estimators and contribute to best practices
Candidate Profile
- 8+ years of estimating experience focused on fire protection systems
- Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent industry experience
- Strong technical knowledge of fire protection systems and NFPA codes
- Experience in the Boston construction market preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam Revu
- Familiarity with estimating/takeoff software and CRM tools (SugarCRM preferred)
- Detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable managing multiple deadlines
- Strong communication and client-facing skills
- Able to work independently within a collaborative team environment
