Senior Geologist

About the Opportunity
An established and growing environmental consulting firm is seeking a Senior Geologist to support complex environmental investigation and remediation projects throughout Southern California. This position is ideal for a technically strong environmental professional with extensive experience in site characterization, groundwater investigations, remediation, regulatory strategy, and client management.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of California environmental regulations, excellent technical writing skills, and a proven track record managing complex contaminated site projects involving soil, groundwater, vapor intrusion, and remedial actions. A California Professional Geologist (PG) license is highly preferred. Candidates with a Geologist-in-Training (GIT) certification and a confirmed timeline to sit for the PG exam within the next several months will also be considered.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage environmental investigation and remediation projects from planning through regulatory closure.
- Design and oversee:
- Soil investigations
- Groundwater investigations and monitoring programs
- Soil vapor and vapor intrusion assessments
- Site characterization and delineation activities
- Interpret geological and hydrogeological data to support remediation decision-making.
- Develop conceptual site models and evaluate contaminant fate and transport.
- Prepare and review technicaldeliverables including:
- Work Plans
- Site Investigation Reports
- Remedial Action Plans
- Monitoring Reports
- Closure Reports
- Regulatory correspondence
- Interface directly with regulatory agencies, clients, legal teams, contractors, and technical staff.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, scopes, invoicing, and client communications.
- Support remediation design and implementation efforts.
- Mentor junior geologists and environmental scientists.
- Participate in proposal preparation, client development, and project pursuits.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in:
- Geology
- Hydrogeology
- Geological Engineering
- Environmental Engineering
- Civil Engineering (environmental focus)
- Closely related geoscience or engineering discipline
Minimum 8 years of environmental consulting, remediation, geology, or hydrogeology experience.
Strong understanding of California environmental regulations and regulatory agencies.
Demonstrated experience investigating and remediating contaminated sites.
Strong technical report writing, data analysis, and interpretation skills.
Experience managing project budgets, schedules, and client relationships.
Experience with:
- Groundwater assessment and remediation
- Soil contamination investigations

Preferred Qualifications
- California Professional Geologist (PG) license.

- Chlorinated solvents (PCE, TCE, and daughter products)
- Petroleum hydrocarbons
- Industrial contaminant releases
- Complex groundwater plumes
- Experience supporting projects regulated by:
- DTSC
- Regional Water Quality Control Boards (RWQCBs)
- Local oversight agencies
- Familiarity with remediation technologies including:
- Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE)
- Air Sparging
- In-Situ Chemical Oxidation (ISCO)
- In-Situ Bioremediation (ISB)
- Multi-phase extraction systems
- Groundwater extraction and treatment systems
Ideal Background
This opportunity is best suited for someone whose experience extends beyond Phase I ESAs and basic Phase II environmental due diligence investigations. The ideal candidate has substantial experience investigating the nature and extent of contamination, evaluating complex subsurface conditions, developing remediation strategies, interacting with regulators, and driving sites toward closure.
Strong consideration will be given to professionals who have managed projects involving chlorinated solvents, groundwater remediation, soil vapor impacts, and long-term corrective action programs.
