Senior Structural Engineer
We are working with a well respected structural engineering firm that is looking for an engineer who can take ownership of design work from early concept through construction closeout. This role offers a strong mix of technical design, project leadership, and mentorship, with the support of senior staff when needed. It is a great fit for someone who enjoys solving complex structural challenges and building strong client relationships.
What You Will Do
- Lead structural design decisions based on project needs, building codes, load paths, architectural considerations, operational requirements, and constructability
- Apply advanced civil and structural engineering principles to develop clear, efficient design solutions
- Oversee the work of junior engineers, designers, and drafters as they produce drawings, specifications, calculations, and construction documents
- Support the technical growth of junior staff with patience, clarity, and genuine interest in their development
- Perform structural calculations and develop system layouts for both new buildings and existing structure retrofits
- Review RFIs, submittals, and other construction phase documents
- Manage multiple projects of moderate size or lead major portions of larger projects with limited oversight
- Assist in preparing proposals, including scope, budgets, and schedules
- Build and maintain strong client relationships from project kickoff through completion
- Participate in project meetings, plan reviews, and design team coordination
- Support business development efforts when opportunities arise
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Structural Engineering with 5 to 7 or more years of relevant, stable experience
- California Professional Civil or Structural Engineering license
- Experience with seismic design, seismic evaluation, and retrofit of existing buildings in high seismic regions
- Ability to perform advanced linear and nonlinear analysis with minimal direction
- Strong design experience with steel, concrete, masonry, and wood
- Familiarity with the California Building Code and ASCE 41
- Experience with modeling tools such as ETABS, RISA, RAM, Revit, MathCAD, SAP2000, AutoCAD, or Tekla
Preferred Qualifications
- California Structural Engineer license
- Active involvement in structural or earthquake engineering organizations
- Experience using Python, Rhino, or Grasshopper
- Experience working on complex healthcare facility projects
- Experience mentoring, coordinating, or supervising junior staff
