Senior Substation Engineer

We are seeking a highly experienced and licensed Senior Substation Engineer to lead and oversee multiple design teams in the execution of complex substation projects across Texas. This role is ideal for a technical leader with 10+ years of experience in physical substation engineering, a strong understanding of utility standards, and a proven ability to manage cross-functional teams and drive project success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the engineering design and execution of high-voltage substation projects, including physical layout, grounding, conduit systems, equipment specifications, and construction support.
  • Supervise and mentor multiple design groups across disciplines such as civil, structural, protection & control, and transmission engineering.
  • Serve as the technical authority for substation design, ensuring compliance with IEEE, NESC, NEC, and client-specific standards.
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables, ensuring quality, accuracy, and alignment with project goals and timelines.
  • Collaborate with project managers, clients, and field teams to coordinate design efforts, resolve technical issues, and support construction activities.
  • Provide leadership in design reviews, pre-construction meetings, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Support proposal development, scope definition, and resource planning for upcoming substation projects.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes affecting substation design and operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in physical substation engineering.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Texas.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams and managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong knowledge of substation equipment, layout design, grounding systems, and utility standards.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and project management tools.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with utilities, EPCs, or consulting firms in Texas.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy interconnections, grid modernization, or transmission expansion projects.
  • Experience with QA/QC processes and field engineering support.
