Position Overview
The Senior Transmission Line Engineer plays a key role in the design, engineering, and delivery of high-voltage transmission line projects ranging from 69kV to 500kV. This individual is responsible for leading complex design efforts, preparing construction-ready documentation, performing detailed engineering calculations, and supporting projects through design, construction, and closeout.
The role requires strong expertise in transmission line design tools and industry standards, along with the ability to work independently, support QA/QC processes, and collaborate across engineering, project management, and construction teams.
Key Responsibilities
Transmission Line Design & Engineering
- Lead preliminary and detailed design of large, complex overhead transmission line projects
- Prepare engineering calculations to ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance
- Develop construction drawings, plan & profile sheets, and full design packages
- Create structure framing details, grounding details, and bills of material
- Perform foundation design and analysis for wood, steel, and concrete structures
- Develop structure lists, staking tables, stringing charts, and construction instructions
- Prepare equipment and material specifications and support procurement activities
Software & Technical Tools
- Perform detailed design using PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, PLS-Tower
- Utilize foundation and structural analysis tools (e.g., MFAD, LPILE - preferred)
- Support development of accurate quantity takeoffs and cost estimates
QA/QC & Standards Compliance
- Support and participate in QA/QC reviews prior to internal or external submittals
- Ensure designs comply with applicable safety codes, utility standards, and industry practices
- Maintain working knowledge of applicable transmission and construction codes
Construction & Field Support
- Provide engineering support during construction to address field conditions and design changes
- Interpret plans and specifications to ensure design intent is maintained
- Conduct site visits, investigations, and field reviews as required
- Review contractor submittals, invoices, and installed materials for compliance
Project & Client Support
- Serve as Project Engineer or support project management efforts as assigned
- Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and engineering documentation
- Support coordination between engineering, construction, and project stakeholders
- Participate in technical discussions with clients and project teams
Leadership & Professional Development
- Provide guidance and technical direction to designers and technicians
- Support training and professional development efforts within the engineering group
- Stay current with emerging technologies, tools, and industry best practices

Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program
- FE/EIT preferred
Experience
- 8-10+ years of experience in transmission line engineering
- Proven experience with high-voltage transmission line design projects
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of transmission line design principles and construction practices
- Experience with industry codes and standards (e.g., utility standards, safety codes, IEEE)
- Proficiency with engineering design software and CADD tools
- Strong analytical, technical writing, and project coordination skills
