Senior Transmission Strategy & Regulatory Advisor

Position Overview

We are seeking a strategic and analytical professional to lead transmission-related regulatory strategy, cost optimization, and policy engagement across multiple U.S. energy markets. This fully remote role is ideal for someone with deep expertise in transmission economics, regulatory frameworks, and stakeholder collaboration. The Advisor will work closely with internal teams and external entities-including grid operators, regulatory bodies, and industry groups-to shape transmission policy, manage cost structures, and support long-term planning initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the organization's lead representative in transmission-related regulatory forums, including engagement with Independent System Operators (ISOs) and Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs).
  • Develop and execute strategies for transmission cost recovery, rate design, and tariff compliance.
  • Monitor and interpret federal and state regulatory developments impacting transmission services, and advise internal teams accordingly.
  • Collaborate with legal and policy teams to prepare filings and responses for regulatory proceedings, including those before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
  • Lead internal reviews of transmission-related charges, settlements, and market mechanisms such as Financial Transmission Rights (FTRs) and Auction Revenue Rights (ARRs).
  • Coordinate with planning and engineering teams to align transmission strategy with long-term infrastructure goals.
  • Build and maintain relationships with transmission operators, neighboring utilities, and industry coalitions to advance shared objectives.
  • Oversee third-party economic analyses and internal modeling to support strategic decision-making.
  • Participate in national working groups and task forces focused on transmission policy and innovation.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Electrical Engineering, Energy Economics, or a related field required.
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MPA, MS in Energy Systems, or JD) preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in transmission policy, regulatory affairs, or energy market economics.
  • Prior experience working with or within ISOs/RTOs such as MISO, PJM, or CAISO is highly desirable.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of transmission cost structures, regulatory filings, and market mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with Open Access Transmission Tariffs (OATT) and related compliance frameworks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage external relationships.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and financial modeling tools is a plus.

Work Environment

  • Remote-first role with flexible scheduling and virtual collaboration tools.
  • Occasional travel may be required for stakeholder meetings, industry conferences, or regulatory hearings.
