Senior Water Resources Engineer

Our client is a nationally recognised engineering consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering transportation, municipal, and water resources projects across Pennsylvania and the surrounding region. As their Pittsburgh team continues to grow, they are seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to provide technical leadership on a diverse portfolio of hydrology and hydraulics projects.

This position offers the opportunity to work on complex drainage, stormwater, watershed, floodplain, and transportation infrastructure projects while supporting key public-sector clients, including municipalities, county agencies, and state DOTs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for transportation and municipal infrastructure projects
  • Develop and review drainage studies, stormwater management reports, floodplain analyses, and watershed assessments
  • Perform modelling for bridge and culvert hydraulics, roadway drainage systems, and flood risk mitigation projects
  • Serve as a technical lead and subject matter expert for H&H-related projects
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams and support project delivery efforts
  • Interface with clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders
  • Prepare technical reports, permit applications, and engineering documentation
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to staff development initiatives
  • Assist with business development activities, proposal preparation, and client relationship management
  • Support quality control reviews and ensure technical excellence across project deliverables

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licence required
  • 10+ years of experience in water resources engineering
  • Strong background in hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, drainage design, and floodplain modelling
  • Experience working on transportation and municipal infrastructure projects
  • Proficiency with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HydroCAD, SWMM, or similar modelling platforms
  • Experience preparing and reviewing technical studies and engineering designs
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with clients and regulators
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage project responsibilities

Preferred Experience

  • PennDOT project experience
  • Bridge and culvert hydraulic design
  • FEMA floodplain studies and CLOMR/LOMR processes
  • Watershed planning and resiliency initiatives
  • Civil 3D, GIS, and drainage modelling software
  • Proposal development and project pursuit support
