About the Opportunity
A rapidly growing energy infrastructure organization is seeking a Senior Director of Infrastructure Development to lead the origination and development of utility-scale private electrical infrastructure projects across North America.
This individual will be responsible for building and managing a pipeline of large-scale transmission, substation, distribution, and microgrid projects that support energy-intensive industries including data centers, advanced manufacturing, industrial facilities, digital infrastructure, and emerging energy markets.
The role offers a unique opportunity to influence critical power infrastructure from early-stage development through construction readiness while partnering closely with executive leadership, engineering, commercial, legal, finance, and construction teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead development of utility-scale electrical infrastructure projects, including transmission, substation, distribution, and microgrid assets.
- Manage projects from site identification and origination through permitting, interconnection, and construction commencement.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and development plans.
- Coordinate environmental studies, site due diligence, surveys, and permitting activities.
- Lead utility interconnection efforts, including application submissions, negotiations, and agreements.
- Collaborate with engineering teams throughout project design and development.
- Partner with construction leadership on contractor selection and project handoff.
- Manage relationships with utilities, regulatory agencies, consultants, landowners, customers, and other key stakeholders.
- Support project financing activities and lender due diligence requirements.
- Present project updates, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Contribute to business development initiatives and project pipeline growth.
- Build and lead a growing team of development professionals.
Preferred Background
- 15+ years of experience developing or managing utility-scale electrical infrastructure projects.
- Strong background in transmission, substations, distribution systems, or large-scale energy infrastructure.
- Experience navigating permitting, right-of-way acquisition, utility coordination, and interconnection processes.
- Familiarity with renewable energy, energy storage, microgrids, or power generation projects is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of major power markets and utility regulations is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects involving multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication, presentation, and client-facing skills.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with significant autonomy.
