Sr Mechanical Estimator (Baltimore Based)
JOB DESCRIPTION
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaboration with the Vice President of Preconstruction & Divisional Managers:
Work closely with the Project Management team to stay informed on current field practices. Communicate regularly with Project Managers and Superintendents, and attend project visits to compare estimated and actual costs.
Develop detailed and accurate budgets with clear assumptions and clarifications. Prepare estimates using various industry-standard methods (e.g., fixed-price, GMP, IPD, unit price, T&M, cost-plus, incentive contracts).
Draft scope letters and preconstruction documentation to support estimates and respond to RFPs.
Identify and present value engineering and cost-saving opportunities to clients to meet budget constraints.
Collaborate with team members to maintain estimating databases, including wage rates, labor factors, labor escalation, subcontractor costs, general expenses, and key project indicators.
Review all estimates in collaboration with the Vice President of Preconstruction.
Conduct final estimate reviews for accuracy, potential cost savings, and opportunities; assist with scheduling and proposal evaluations.
Support bid day activities, including BOM and proposal reviews, and final estimate evaluations.
Participate in post-bid turnover meetings for awarded projects.
Maintain historical cost data to compare with current estimates and building classifications.
Attend industry-related events as needed.
Maintain reliable transportation for meetings and job site walk-throughs.
Collaborate with:
Preconstruction department to identify pre-fabrication opportunities during estimating and bid turnover phases.
Project Management, Fabrication, and Virtual Design departments.
Safety Manager to address safety considerations during estimating.
QA/QC personnel to incorporate quality and commissioning requirements.
Owners/Clients to build relationships and align expectations.
PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience achieving Journeyman status.
10+ years of mechanical, plumbing, and/or industrial HVAC estimating experience with a proven track record of successful contract awards.
Strong familiarity with field concepts, construction practices, and procedures.
Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards and construction contract terminology.
Familiarity with the local market is a plus.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Proficient in Microsoft Office for reporting, analysis, and presentations.
Advanced user of estimating software, database management tools, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Bluebeam.
Experience with FTP sites, virtual plan rooms, project management, document control systems, and construction/financial software packages.

Regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands for computer-based tasks.
Frequently required to walk, climb, balance, kneel, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Ability to travel to job sites and navigate construction environments.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Primarily office-based, with extended computer use and occasional travel to field locations.
Field visits may include exposure to outdoor conditions, mechanical equipment, heights, dust, chemicals, and varying weather.
Noise levels may range from moderate to loud.
