Overview

A leading engineering organization is seeking a Civil/Structural Nuclear Engineer to support complex infrastructure and energy projects. The role offers a flexible, collaborative environment with strong professional‑growth opportunities. Please note that this position is offered in Gaithersburg, Maryland which is 30 minutes North of the Greater D.C. area. It is also being offered in Raleigh, North Carolina; Houston, Texas; Ann Arbor, Michigan; Kansas City, Missouri; and Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Role Summary

This position functions as a technical specialist and may take on lead responsibilities. The engineer will perform advanced structural analyses, produce high‑quality technical deliverables, and support multidisciplinary project teams with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced structural engineering techniques for nuclear‑related projects.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, reports, and technical deliverables.
  • Conduct research and recommend materials, methods, and design approaches.
  • Oversee engineering data collection and quality control.
  • Manage assigned work according to budget, schedule, and technical requirements.
  • Provide guidance to junior engineers and review their work.
  • Coordinate with internal and external project teams.
  • Communicate client needs and integrate them into project execution.
  • Support proposals and technical input for business development.
  • Mentor team members and contribute to knowledge‑sharing.

Preferred Experience

  • Structural steel and reinforced‑concrete design for nuclear facilities.
  • Developing technical specifications, scope documents, and nuclear design verification.
  • Proficiency with: RISA‑3D, STAAD.Pro, GT STRUDL, ANSYS.
  • Familiarity with key codes: ASME III/XI, AISC, ACI 318/349.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of related structural engineering experience.
  • Ability to complete standard pre‑employment screenings.
  • Active engineering licensure.

Work Environment

Full‑time role with potential hybrid/flexible work options after the initial period, dependent on performance and project needs.
