Staff Surveyor
Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Staff Surveyor to support and lead land surveying projects from planning through final deliverables. This role involves supervising field teams, coordinating project activities, preparing technical documentation, and ensuring high-quality outputs. The ideal candidate has strong field and office experience, excellent communication skills, and proven project management capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist discipline leadership with the planning, coordination, and production of land surveying project deliverables.
- Oversee and manage staff for assigned project tasks, including supervision of field operations.
- Coordinate with team members to prepare and revise field work scopes, survey data, data reduction, project plans, and final deliverables.
- Draft and/or review CAD files, survey maps, proposals, legal descriptions, and supporting technical reports.
- Support project scheduling, task development, and budgeting; prepare progress reports and draft change orders.
- Manage multiple project assignments while maintaining budgets, timelines, and deliverable quality.
- Assist with draft invoices, project billings, and payment collections when required.
- Utilize maps, drawings, engineering plans, and aerial imagery to assess project needs and help determine project approach.
- Perform office tasks including CAD drafting, data downloads, deed and map research, and document filing.
- Collect field data using surveying equipment and software when needed.
- Assist in recovery of survey control and monumentation, construction layout, subsurface utility data gathering, and site photo documentation.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 5+ years of land surveying experience in both field and office settings.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Carlson software with strong general computer skills.
- Experience with preparing proposals and developing job estimates.
- Ability to perform complex boundary analyses and maintain quality control of survey deliverables.
- Proven ability to manage staff and coordinate multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
- Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across management, technical teams, and clients.
- Exceptional attention to detail with strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel to field sites as needed.
