Survey Department Lead

We are seeking an experienced Land Survey Department Lead to oversee and grow a high-performing survey team delivering FDOT and transportation-related survey services across Central Florida. This is a leadership role responsible for technical excellence, client engagement, and operational performance within a well-established consulting environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the FDOT survey practice, including control surveys, right-of-way mapping, corridor mapping, and construction support
  • Serve as Engineer of Record / Surveyor of Record when required, ensuring compliance with FDOT standards, manuals, and QA/QC requirements
  • Develop and manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and resource allocation across multiple concurrent projects
  • Provide technical oversight on deliverables including terrain models, ROW maps, design surveys, and as-built documentation
  • Act as the primary liaison with FDOT Districts (primarily D5), local municipalities, and prime consultants
  • Mentor and develop survey staff, including project managers, office technicians, and field crews
  • Drive business development by strengthening FDOT relationships, supporting proposals, and identifying new contract opportunities (CCNA pursuits)
  • Implement and optimize department workflows, technology adoption, and best practices

Qualifications:

  • Florida Professional Surveyor and Mapper (PSM) license required
  • 10+ years of progressive surveying experience with a strong focus on FDOT/transportation projects
  • Demonstrated experience managing teams and leading a department or business unit
  • Deep knowledge of FDOT Surveying and Mapping procedures, Florida Statutes, and QA/QC standards
  • Proficient with industry tools such as MicroStation, GEOPAK/OpenRoads, Trimble, Leica, and Civil 3D
  • Proven success in client management and contract/project delivery within FDOT or similar DOT environments

Preferred:

  • Existing relationships with FDOT District 5 or regional transportation agencies
  • Experience with CCNA contracts and proposal development
  • Strong leadership presence with a track record of team growth and retention
