Controls Technician - Building Automation Systems (BAS)

Position Summary
We are seeking a knowledgeable and hands‑on Controls Technician to support building automation projects and service activities in the San Antonio area. This role focuses on the installation, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting of BAS solutions, with a strong emphasis on Tridium Niagara and Siemens DDC systems. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of HVAC controls and be comfortable working in both new construction and existing facility environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, program, commission, and service building automation and HVAC control systems.
- Configure and maintain Tridium Niagara (AX and/or N4) stations, including graphics, alarms, trends, and integrations.
- Work with Siemens DDC controllers and software to perform point‑to‑point checkout and system validation.
- Troubleshoot BAS hardware, software, network communications, sensors, and actuators.
- Perform functional testing and commissioning per sequences of operation.
- Read and interpret control drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Integrate third‑party systems using BACnet IP/MSTP, Modbus, and other open protocols.
- Support retrofit projects, system expansions, and optimization efforts.
- Provide on‑site service support, corrective maintenance, and preventative maintenance.
- Document work performed, system changes, and commissioning results.
- Interface professionally with customers, contractors, and internal project teams.
- Ensure work complies with safety standards, company procedures, and local codes.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in Building Automation / HVAC controls.
- Hands‑on experience with:
- Tridium Niagara (AX and/or N4)
- Siemens BAS/DDC systems
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems (VAVs, AHUs, RTUs, chillers, boilers, etc.).
- Experience using BAS communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus; LonWorks a plus).
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical and control system issues using meters and software tools.
- Familiarity with IP networking basics (IP addressing, routers, switches preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret sequences of operation and control schematics.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally within the San Antonio area.
- Strong communication, organizational, and customer‑service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Niagara N4 Certification
- Siemens controls factory training or certification
- Experience developing or modifying BAS graphics
- Experience in healthcare, education, military, or large commercial facilities
- Knowledge of energy optimization and system analytics
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and active construction sites.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work from ladders or lifts as needed.
- Occasional after‑hours or weekend work during commissioning or service calls.
