Traffic Engineer

Location: Rhode Island or Massachusetts
Hybrid Flexibility Available

A growing multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm is seeking a Traffic Engineer to join its expanding transportation team. This opportunity offers the chance to work on a diverse portfolio of traffic and transportation projects throughout New England while playing a key role in technical design, project delivery, and mentorship of junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform traffic engineering analyses, including:
    • Traffic impact studies
    • Signal timing, phasing, and sequencing
    • Traffic data collection and analysis
    • Traffic modeling and simulation
    • Technical report preparation
  • Develop engineering plans for:
    • Traffic signal systems
    • Intersection and roadway improvements
    • Complete Streets projects
    • Pavement marking and signage plans
    • Temporary traffic control and construction staging
  • Assist with preparing construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Lead technical tasks on multiple transportation projects simultaneously
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams across various offices
  • Support client relationships through responsive communication and technical expertise
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineering staff

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in transportation, traffic, or roadway engineering
  • EIT certification required; PE license or ability to obtain preferred
  • Strong background in traffic and transportation engineering
  • Experience with Synchro/SimTraffic (VISSIM experience is a plus)
  • Experience with AutoCAD (Civil 3D and/or MicroStation preferred)
  • Working knowledge of MUTCD standards and guidelines
  • Familiarity with state DOT design standards and transportation agency requirements is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
