Traffic Group Lead
Our client, a nationally recognized transportation consulting firm is seeking a Traffic Group Lead to join its leadership team in Kansas City, St Louis, or Chicago, Illinois.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced traffic professional to take on a highly visible leadership role, overseeing major transportation and ITS initiatives while helping guide the strategic growth of a well-established practice. With a strong pipeline of work already in place, the focus is on project delivery, technical leadership, client engagement, and team development.
The ideal candidate will bring a mix of technical expertise, project management capabilities, and leadership experience across traffic operations, signal systems, transportation planning, and Intelligent Transportation Systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of complex traffic engineering and ITS projects from planning through construction.
- Provide technical oversight for traffic operations, signal timing, corridor studies, safety evaluations, and transportation analyses.
- Direct the design of traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, maintenance of traffic plans, lighting systems, and ITS infrastructure.
- Manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
- Mentor and develop engineers across a regional traffic team.
- Partner with transportation agencies, municipalities, and key stakeholders to deliver successful projects.
- Support proposal development, client engagement activities, and strategic growth initiatives.
- Collaborate with roadway, bridge, and other transportation disciplines on multidisciplinary projects.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 15+ years of experience in traffic engineering and transportation projects.
- Experience with traffic analysis and simulation tools such as Synchro, HCS, SIDRA, and/or VISSIM.
- Strong knowledge of MUTCD standards and traffic engineering principles.
- Proven experience leading projects, developing staff, and managing client relationships.
Preferred
- PTOE certification.
- Experience with freeway management systems and large-scale ITS deployments.
- Experience working with DOT and municipal clients.
- Familiarity with MicroStation and OpenRoads.
