Overview
A growing engineering and consulting firm supporting the power and energy sector is seeking a Transmission Engineer to contribute to grid interconnection and system analysis projects. The organization provides technical advisory, modeling, and testing services to utilities and energy developers, with a focus on innovative solutions and practical implementation.
Role Summary
This role involves performing power system studies and supporting renewable interconnection projects, including solar and energy storage facilities. The engineer will develop models, analyze system performance, and deliver technical insights to support project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Review electrical diagrams, equipment configurations, and ratings for substations supporting renewable generation
- Develop and analyze power system models using industry software tools
- Perform studies including:
- Load flow / steady-state analysis
- Short circuit analysis
- Arc flash and harmonic analysis
- Protection coordination
- Conduct dynamic simulations and model validation for inverter-based resources
- Perform contingency analysis (e.g., N-1, N-1-1 scenarios) to assess grid reliability
- Evaluate system conditions such as power flow and islanding scenarios
- Prepare clear technical reports summarizing findings and recommendations
- Support interconnection applications and compliance with utility requirements
- Identify technical risks and propose practical solutions
- Build or enhance automation tools to improve workflow efficiency
- Collaborate with internal teams and support client-facing deliverables
- Manage assigned tasks to meet budget, schedule, and quality objectives
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field
Technical Experience
- Power system studies (steady-state, fault, harmonic analysis)
- Arc flash, protection coordination, and dynamic model testing
- Experience with at least two programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C, SQL, Fortran)
- Familiarity with power system simulation tools such as ETAP, PSS®E, SKM, or ASPEN
- Experience with electromagnetic transient tools (e.g., PSCAD)
Relevant academic projects or internships will be considered as experience.
Work Environment
- Hybrid schedule (combination of in-office and remote work)
- Occasional weekend work may be required
- Up to ~15% travel for project meetings domestically and internationally
