Senior Transportation Practice Leader - Civil Engineering
A growing engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Transportation Practice Leader to drive strategic growth and lead multidisciplinary transportation initiatives in a key regional market. This is a high-level leadership opportunity for an experienced civil engineering professional with a strong background in public infrastructure and team development.
Role Overview:
The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in expanding the firm's transportation practice, mentoring staff, and guiding business development efforts. This position involves collaboration with internal leadership across multiple regions and requires a proactive, energetic professional with a proven ability to manage complex transportation projects and build lasting client relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead strategic transportation initiatives and expand market presence
- Hire, mentor, and manage engineering staff across disciplines
- Pursue and manage transportation infrastructure projects with public-sector clients
- Collaborate with internal teams on project delivery and business development
- Develop proposals, scopes of work, schedules, and budgets
- Contribute to business planning, goal setting, and practice development
- Maintain strong client relationships and represent the firm in professional organizations
- Promote a culture of integrity, collaboration, and technical excellence
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- Minimum of 20 years of experience in the transportation industry
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the relevant state
- Proven track record in business development and market expansion
- Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities
- Experience managing transportation contracts with public agencies
- Familiarity with state-level transportation policies and procedures
- Excellent communication skills, including proposal writing and budget development
- Experience with alternative project delivery methods is a plus
- Positive, team-oriented attitude and commitment to professional growth
