Overview

A client of ours is seeking an experienced Transportation Project Manager to join its Michigan-based transportation engineering practice. This role is suited for a senior-level professional with a strong background in roadway, highway, and transportation design, and experience delivering state transportation projects. The position involves leading multidisciplinary teams, supporting business development efforts, and managing the planning and design of complex transportation infrastructure projects. A flexible hybrid work schedule is offered, with a mix of in-office and remote work.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage transportation design projects from preliminary engineering through final plans and specifications
  • Direct and coordinate internal project teams and subconsultants across multiple disciplines
  • Support project pursuits, including teaming strategies, staffing plans, and proposal development
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with state, county, and municipal clients
  • Provide hands-on design oversight for roadways, highways, intersections, and interstates
  • Prepare and review plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates
  • Coordinate with reviewers and technical disciplines including hydraulics, traffic, structures, and environmental
  • Monitor project budgets, schedules, and documentation to ensure quality and compliance
  • Mentor and supervise engineering staff through design and plan development activities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • 10 or more years of progressive experience delivering Michigan transportation projects
  • Michigan Professional Engineer license required
  • Experience serving as a Project Manager or Lead Roadway Engineer on MDOT projects
  • Strong familiarity with MDOT standards, procedures, and project delivery
  • Experience working with state, county, and municipal transportation agencies
  • Proficiency with MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Reconstruction of state highways involving roadway realignment, drainage improvements, structures, retaining walls, sidewalks, and grant-funded enhancements
  • Urban and suburban corridor reconstructions with storm sewer upgrades, bridge rehabs, and utility coordination
  • Design-build freeway and interstate reconstruction projects spanning multiple counties, including pavement, drainage, safety, and geometric improvements
  • Major arterial boulevard reconstructions with complex intersections, traffic signalization, safety studies, and crash analysis
  • Interchange construction and freeway connections delivered through alternative delivery methods
