Wastewater Operations Superintendent
A growing industrial treatment and resource recovery organization is seeking a full-time Wastewater Operations Superintendent to oversee daily operations at a treatment facility. This leadership role is responsible for managing treatment processes, maintaining regulatory compliance, supporting plant personnel, and driving operational excellence. This role requires a current Ohio Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator certificate, Grade II or higher.
The Superintendent serves as the primary on-site leader, overseeing process performance, environmental compliance, maintenance coordination, and team development. The successful candidate will work closely with operators, technicians, contractors, vendors, regulatory agencies, and company leadership.
This position may require flexible scheduling, including on-call coverage, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage plant operations personnel responsible for monitoring and optimizing treatment system performance.
- Oversee process operations including biological treatment systems, pumping equipment, chemical feed systems, filtration processes, solids handling, and utility systems.
- Supervise, train, and mentor operations staff while supporting employee development and performance management.
- Ensure compliance with environmental permits, operating requirements, safety standards, and company policies.
- Coordinate inspections, audits, reporting activities, and recordkeeping requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on treatment performance, operational efficiency, reliability, and environmental compliance.
- Manage inventories of operational supplies, treatment chemicals, consumables, and spare parts.
- Coordinate activities with maintenance teams, contractors, equipment vendors, and service providers.
- Support equipment troubleshooting and process optimization efforts.
- Maintain all required certifications, licenses, and continuing education requirements.
Qualifications
- Active wastewater treatment operator certification or the ability to maintain required licensing.
- Five or more years of experience in wastewater treatment, industrial utilities, process operations, environmental services, or related industries.
- Demonstrated experience leading operations personnel in an industrial or treatment facility environment.
- Strong understanding of treatment processes, pumps, piping systems, motors, instrumentation, process controls, and related equipment.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), process monitoring platforms, and operational reporting tools.
- Working knowledge of environmental regulations and permit compliance requirements.
- Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments throughout the year.
- Ability to walk, stand, climb, bend, lift materials and equipment, work at heights, and enter confined spaces when required.
- Ability to safely perform duties in an industrial operating environment.
