Water Resources Engineer

Location: Portland, ME or Remote

Type: Full-Time

Our client is seeking a Water Resources Engineer to join their growing team. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of hydrology and hydraulics (H&H) projects, including stormwater management, drainage design, floodplain modelling, watershed studies, stream restoration, culvert and bridge hydraulics, and flood mitigation initiatives.

The successful candidate will work alongside experienced engineers and project managers while contributing to technically challenging projects across municipal, transportation, environmental, and infrastructure markets. Relevant requirements and responsibilities are based on similar internal water resources engineering roles.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for stormwater, drainage, floodplain, and watershed projects
  • Develop H&H models using software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, HydroCAD, HY-8, or similar tools
  • Prepare engineering reports, design calculations, plans, specifications, and technical documentation
  • Design stormwater management systems, drainage improvements, and flood mitigation solutions
  • Support watershed studies, stream restoration projects, and floodplain assessments
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, environmental, transportation, and permitting professionals
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and client communications
  • Prepare permit applications and support regulatory approvals with local, state, and federal agencies
  • Conduct field investigations, site visits, and construction support activities as needed
  • Review technical deliverables and maintain high standards of quality assurance and quality control
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance where appropriate
  • Contribute to proposal preparation and business development efforts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant water resources engineering experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain PE licensure within 6 months of hire
  • Strong experience in hydrology and hydraulics (H&H) analyses and design
  • Experience with stormwater management, drainage design, floodplain modelling, and watershed studies
  • Proficiency with H&H modelling software including HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, HydroCAD, HY-8, or equivalent tools
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local permitting and regulatory requirements
  • Experience preparing technical reports, engineering calculations, and construction documents
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a collaborative environment
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or GIS software is preferred
