Project Engineer - Water Resources & Drainage

Location: Denver, CO (Hybrid)

Compensation: $115,000 - $135,000 Base Salary + Bonus + Comprehensive Benefits

A growing multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm is seeking a Project Engineer to support its expanding Water Resources practice in the Denver area. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of drainage, stormwater, flood control, watershed, and municipal infrastructure projects across Colorado and the Mountain West.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys technical problem-solving, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, and collaborating with public agencies to develop resilient infrastructure solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for drainage, stormwater, and flood control projects.
  • Prepare drainage reports, stormwater management plans, floodplain studies, and watershed assessments.
  • Develop and apply H&H models using industry-standard software.
  • Support the planning and design of storm drain systems, detention facilities, channels, culverts, and flood mitigation improvements.
  • Coordinate with municipalities, transportation agencies, flood districts, and project stakeholders.
  • Prepare technical reports, design calculations, exhibits, and client presentations.
  • Support project management efforts including schedules, budgets, and client communication.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • PE license required or ability to obtain in the near future.
  • 5+ years of experience in water resources, drainage, flood control, or stormwater engineering.
  • Experience with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, InfoWorks, TUFLOW, or similar modeling software.
  • Familiarity with FEMA studies, drainage master planning, and floodplain analysis.
  • Strong communication, technical writing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
