Water Resources Project Engineer (PE)

Position Overview

We are seeking a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) to join our growing Water Resources team in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This individual will play a key role in the planning, design, and delivery of municipal water infrastructure projects throughout New Mexico and the Southwest. The ideal candidate will have experience with drainage and stormwater systems, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, flood control studies, water conveyance infrastructure, and municipal public works projects.

This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and building strong relationships with public-sector clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, design, and analysis of water resources and municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for drainage systems, flood control facilities, stormwater management, and water conveyance systems.
  • Develop engineering reports, technical studies, calculations, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Prepare grading, drainage, utility, and stormwater designs utilizing Civil 3D and related engineering software.
  • Coordinate with municipalities, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders throughout project execution.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables while ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior engineers and EITs.
  • Support business development efforts through client interactions, proposal preparation, and project pursuits.
  • Participate in field investigations, construction observation, and project closeout activities as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Mexico or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
  • 5+ years of experience in water resources, drainage, stormwater, municipal infrastructure, or related civil engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, and floodplain analysis.
  • Experience with software such as Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, ArcGIS, StormCAD, WaterCAD, or similar modeling platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with local municipalities, counties, tribal communities, or state agencies throughout New Mexico.
  • Project management experience including budgeting, scheduling, and client coordination.
  • Familiarity with FEMA permitting, drainage criteria manuals, and regional water resource regulations.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading project teams.
