Water/Wastewater Process Mechanical Engineer
Locations: Blacksburg, Fairfax, Fredericksburg, Lynchburg, Newport News, Richmond, Virginia Beach (VA) + West Virginia
A well-established, multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm is seeking a Water/Wastewater Process Mechanical Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
This is an opportunity to join a highly respected team with a strong backlog of public-sector work and a reputation for delivering technically complex projects across the Mid-Atlantic.
The Role
- Support the planning, design, and analysis of water and wastewater treatment facilities and associated process mechanical systems
- Develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates for pumping stations, treatment plants, and related infrastructure
- Perform hydraulic analysis, equipment selection, and system sizing
- Assist with permitting, regulatory coordination, and project development activities
- Provide construction-phase support, including shop drawing review, site observations, and contractor coordination
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects on schedule and within budget
What They're Looking For
- BS in Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering
- ~5-10 years of experience in process mechanical / piping design within water or wastewater
- Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, pumping systems, and treatment processes
- Experience with AutoCAD (Revit or other 3D tools a plus)
- Strong communication skills and ability to work within a team environment
Preferred
- PE license (or working toward)
- Experience with municipal water/wastewater treatment facilities design
