About the Opportunity

A leading provider of industrial water and wastewater treatment solutions is seeking a Senior Sales Engineer / Wastewater Business Development Leader to drive growth across North America.

This is a highly visible, customer-facing role focused on expanding the company's wastewater treatment business through strategic account development, technical sales leadership, and market expansion initiatives. The successful candidate will work with industrial customers to develop solutions that address wastewater treatment, water reuse, resource recovery, and environmental compliance challenges.

The role is ideal for an experienced wastewater professional who combines strong technical knowledge with proven success selling engineered systems, process equipment, and capital projects.


Position Summary

The Senior Sales Engineer will lead business development activities for industrial wastewater treatment solutions while serving as a trusted advisor to customers, consultants, engineering firms, EPC contractors, and strategic industry partners.

This position requires a unique combination of technical expertise, consultative selling skills, and leadership capabilities. The successful candidate will identify new opportunities, develop treatment concepts, support proposal development, and help guide opportunities from initial qualification through contract award.


Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Market Growth

  • Develop and execute strategic growth plans for industrial wastewater treatment solutions.
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified project opportunities.
  • Identify and develop new business within key industrial markets.
  • Establish relationships with industrial end users, consulting engineers, EPC firms, and channel partners.
  • Monitor market trends, competitive activity, and emerging regulatory drivers.
  • Develop strategies to expand market share and increase revenue.

Technical Sales Leadership

  • Serve as the lead technical resource during customer evaluations and project development discussions.
  • Conduct customer meetings, site visits, and process assessments.
  • Evaluate treatment challenges and recommend practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Deliver technical presentations and solution workshops.
  • Support proposal development, budgeting, and commercial strategy.
  • Assist customers in evaluating treatment alternatives and technology selection.

Wastewater Treatment Solutions

Support customers with a broad range of treatment technologies including:

  • Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF)
  • Coagulation and Flocculation Systems
  • Clarification and Solids Separation
  • Biological Treatment Systems
  • MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor)
  • MBR (Membrane Bioreactor)
  • IFAS Systems
  • Sludge Thickening and Dewatering
  • Water Reuse and Recycling Systems
  • Industrial Pretreatment Systems
  • Nutrient Removal Technologies
  • Resource Recovery Solutions
  • High-Strength Industrial Wastewater Applications

Strategic Account Management

  • Develop long-term relationships with key customer stakeholders.
  • Build executive, operational, engineering, and environmental contacts within customer organizations.
  • Manage complex sales cycles from concept through award and implementation.
  • Support contract negotiations and project development activities.
  • Expand business within existing customer accounts.

Internal Leadership & Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with engineering, project execution, service, and operations teams.
  • Provide market intelligence and customer feedback to leadership.
  • Assist with product positioning and go-to-market strategies.
  • Mentor and support junior commercial and technical personnel.
  • Contribute to long-term wastewater growth initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of industrial wastewater treatment experience.
  • Demonstrated success selling engineered systems, capital equipment, or technical solutions.
  • Strong understanding of industrial wastewater treatment technologies and process design.
  • Experience developing and closing complex industrial projects.
  • Strong customer-facing communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to build relationships across technical and executive audiences.
  • Ability to travel throughout North America.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within industrial wastewater treatment equipment, systems integration, or engineered process solutions.
  • Experience selling biological treatment, DAF, water reuse, sludge management, or resource recovery solutions.
  • Established network within industrial wastewater markets.
  • Experience working with engineering consultants, EPC firms, and industrial manufacturing customers.
  • Familiarity with environmental permitting, discharge compliance, and industrial pretreatment programs.
  • History of successfully entering new markets and growing revenue.
