A multidisciplinary architectural, engineering, and environmental consulting firm with offices in NY, CT, and NJ is searching for a proactive Civil Engineering Department Manager to establish and expand a civil engineering practice in the area. This individual will be responsible for guiding the department's vision, strategy, project management, team development, and overall success. With a longstanding history of over three decades in delivering high-quality A/E consulting services, the firm aims to enhance its civil engineering offerings.
The selected candidate will offer expertise in civil engineering project management, business development, and client relationship management, actively coordinating essential civil engineering services. The role entails fostering business growth strategies, and supporting the technical elements of civil engineering projects and operations. The ideal candidate should have a solid network of client relationships, and the firm is also open to applications from owner/operators of smaller civil engineering consultancies.
**Job Responsibilities:**
- Lead and develop the Civil Engineering team.
- Establish a departmental framework tailored for operation in various markets like municipal, real estate, and education sectors.
- Manage design and project coordination across multidiscipline projects, from due diligence and site engineering to regulatory approvals and permitting.
- Design site layouts, including grading, drainage, roadways, and water and sewer infrastructure.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality, timely, and budget-compliant technical outputs.
- Administer projects through report writing, proposal creation, cost tracking, and progress reporting.
- Collaborate with other engineering and architectural departments.
- Set financial performance goals in collaboration with management.
- Develop and implement an annual business plan for civil engineering, coordinating with office leadership and market leaders for broader firm growth.
- Direct client engagement and support across all project phases.
**Education and Qualifications:**
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering required.
- Must hold a Professional Engineer License (PE).
- At least 15 years of experience in leadership, project management, and client relations, preferably known in both municipal and private sectors.
- Strong capability in managing multiple priorities and client relationships, aiming to expand business opportunities.
- Extensive design experience in site development projects and a deep understanding of entitlement processes.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Autoturn, MS Office, and hydrology & hydraulics software.
- Active participation in relevant political and social networking organizations necessary.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills are essential.
The salary for this position ranges between $145,000 and $185,000 annually, subject to qualifications and experience.
