The Role:
As an Automation Engineer, you will assist in the design, fabrication, programming, installation, commissioning/testing, and support of Water/Wastewater control systems. These systems typically include process instrumentation, control panels, motor controls, power monitoring, PLCs, OITs/HMIs, SCADA/DCS Systems, industrial networking, IT infrastructure, radio/cellular telemetry, reporting, and data collection.
Position Duties:
- Provide conceptual design, solutions, and product specifications per end-user requirements.
- Perform in-house PLC/OIT/HMI programming and testing.
- Conduct onsite work for municipal clients, including instrumentation configuration, installation assistance, and control system/process start-up/testing.
- Provide direction to junior-level staff as required for project work.
- Opportunity to grow into a management role.
- Be "on-call" 24/7 to troubleshoot instrumentation and control system issues once competence is demonstrated, with <15-minute initial (phone) response time to outages during on-call rotations.
- Occasionally lift items up to 50 pounds without assistance.
Skills/Experience:
- Relevant Engineering or Technology degree from an ABET-accredited program.
- 7+ years of experience as an Electrical/Controls Engineer performing design, programming, installation, and startup tasks.
- 7+ years of experience programming Modicon, Siemens, and Allen-Bradley Logix platform PLCs.
- 7+ years of experience with fieldwork (panel wiring, startup, and emergency support/troubleshooting).
- 5+ years of experience with SCADA software development (FactoryTalk View SE, Ignition, Wonderware, VTSCADA, or iFix).
- 3+ years of experience programming Allen-Bradley PanelView or other manufacturer touch screens.
- Advanced computer skills, literacy, and proficiency.
- Visio experience is a plus.
- Must possess effective oral, written, and digital communication skills.
- Must be able to interact easily with other staff and assist in communications with clients, customers, engineers, and contractors.
- Must possess effective organizational skills for productive tasks and time management.
- Must be able to identify and solve problems promptly.
- Must be willing to undertake self-development activities.
- Must provide your own transportation (reimbursable) to drive to various offices and client locations.
