Project Engineer - Facilities & Utilities (Life Sciences)

Location: Thousand Oaks, CA

The Role

An opportunity is available for a hands-on Project Engineer supporting site infrastructure work at a biopharmaceutical operations campus in Thousand Oaks, CA. Working alongside Engineering, Facilities, Maintenance, and Manufacturing groups, this person will evaluate the site's existing utility and facility assets, confirm their physical condition, and help carry out equipment retirement and removal initiatives.

This role suits someone with deep experience in building systems - mechanical equipment, HVAC, chilled water plants, and utility infrastructure - who has worked in FDA-regulated or similarly controlled environments such as pharma, biotech, or GMP manufacturing.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Conduct on-site inspections and walkdowns of mechanical assets, including chillers, air handlers, and other plant equipment
  • Document each asset's condition, operating state, usage, and importance to production
  • Assist in planning and executing the decommissioning and removal of equipment past its useful life
  • Act as a liaison between Engineering, Facilities, Maintenance, Operations, and outside parties
  • Build out project scopes, timelines, open-item trackers, and progress reporting
  • Schedule retirement work in sync with planned plant outages to limit operational impact
  • Keep equipment registries and asset databases accurate, reconciling what's physically installed against system records
  • Produce well-organized engineering records and closure documentation
  • Drive projects forward independently from planning through completion

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years in engineering or project engineering roles
  • BS in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering (or closely related field) preferred
  • Solid background with facility systems: HVAC, chillers, utilities, or heavy mechanical equipment
  • Exposure to asset lifecycle programs, equipment retirement, decommissioning, or CMMS/asset-management platforms a plus
  • Proven ability to coordinate across departments and manage competing stakeholder priorities
  • Comfortable performing field verification and condition assessments
  • Prior work in pharmaceutical, biotech, GMP, or another regulated industry is highly desirable
  • Excellent written communication, documentation habits, and organizational skills
  • Self-starter who can own projects end to end

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company match
  • PTO and paid holidays
  • Paid parental leave
  • Education/tuition assistance
  • Life and disability insurance
  • HSA and FSA options
  • Recognition and referral incentives
