Job Title: Transportation Engineer
Location: Duluth, Minnesota
Responsibilities:
Traffic Management: Design, analyze, and optimize traffic flow patterns, signal timings, and road geometries to reduce congestion and enhance safety.
Transportation Planning: Contribute to long-term transportation plans for Duluth, considering factors such as population growth, economic development, and environmental impact.
Roadway Design: Design and oversee the construction of roadways, intersections, and bridges, ensuring compliance with local and state regulations and standards.
Public Transportation: Collaborate with public transit agencies to improve bus routes, schedules, and infrastructure to enhance accessibility and ridership.
Active Transportation: Promote and facilitate the development of pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, including sidewalks, bike lanes, and multi-use paths, to encourage non-motorized modes of transportation.
Traffic Safety: Identify high-risk areas and implement measures to enhance road safety, such as installing traffic signs, pavement markings, and traffic calming devices.
Data Analysis: Utilize traffic data, GIS tools, and simulation models to assess transportation needs, evaluate proposed projects, and measure the effectiveness of implemented solutions.
Environmental Considerations: Incorporate sustainable design principles and environmental best practices into transportation projects to minimize carbon emissions, mitigate pollution, and protect natural habitats.
Public Engagement: Engage with community stakeholders, including residents, businesses, and advocacy groups, to gather input, address concerns, and build consensus around transportation initiatives.
Project Management: Lead multidisciplinary teams of engineers, planners, and consultants to deliver transportation projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Minnesota or the ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe.
- 3+ years of experience in transportation engineering, preferably in a municipal or consulting environment.
- Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Synchro, VISSIM, and GIS.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make data-driven decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.
- Experience managing projects from conception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and stakeholder coordination.
