Senior Project Manager

Position Summary

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading the planning, design, and delivery of complex Higher Education projects from early programming through construction administration. This role requires strong leadership, client engagement, and technical expertise, with a demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and multiple projects concurrently. The position is based in Baltimore, MD and serves regional college and university clients.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership and Delivery

  • Lead all phases of architectural projects including programming, schematic design, design development, construction documents, bidding, and construction administration
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality while ensuring alignment with firm standards and client expectations
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and institutional stakeholders
  • Proactively identify risks and develop mitigation strategies throughout the project lifecycle

Higher Education Expertise

  • Deliver projects specific to Higher Education campuses including academic buildings, research facilities, student centers, residential halls, and campus renovations
  • Navigate institutional governance processes, review boards, and capital development standards
  • Coordinate planning efforts within active campus environments and occupied facilities

Team and Consultant Management

  • Direct and mentor project teams, fostering collaboration and high performance
  • Coordinate and manage consultants including structural, MEP, civil, landscape, and specialty disciplines
  • Review consultant deliverables for accuracy, coordination, and compliance

Client Service and Business Development

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through regular communication and trusted advisory support
  • Support business development efforts including proposals, interviews, and project pursuits
  • Represent the firm in meetings, presentations, and community or campus engagements

Technical and Regulatory Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, zoning ordinances, accessibility standards, and accreditation requirements
  • Oversee document quality control and technical coordination across disciplines
  • Support sustainable design goals and institutional standards, including LEED or equivalent frameworks where applicable

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or related field
  • Professional licensure as a Registered Architect preferred
  • 10 or more years of architectural project management experience, with a strong emphasis on Higher Education projects
  • Proven experience managing large scale and complex institutional projects
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, construction documentation, and contract administration
  • Proficiency with industry software including Revit and Microsoft Office; familiarity with project management tools preferred
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working with colleges or universities in the Mid Atlantic region
  • Familiarity with Maryland building codes and local jurisdictional processes
  • Experience leading projects through public or institutional approval processes
