Controls Engineer

Position Summary

We are looking for a Controls Engineer to join our Albuquerque, NM team, supporting automation and process‑control projects across multiple industries. This role focuses on developing PLC, HMI, and SCADA solutions, producing control system designs, and supporting system testing and commissioning. The ideal candidate brings hands‑on experience with industrial automation platforms, instrumentation, and panel design, along with the communication skills needed to work directly with clients and project teams.

You will collaborate with senior engineers and stakeholders to translate project requirements into detailed control system specifications and ensure smooth implementation from initial concept through startup.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop PLC, HMI, and SCADA applications, including control logic, graphic interfaces, alarm strategies, and communication setup.
  • Produce automation design documentation such as panel layouts, wiring diagrams, I/O lists, network drawings, and instrumentation callouts.
  • Assist with hardware design for control panels, system integration, and instrumentation selection.
  • Participate in system checkout, factory acceptance testing, and site commissioning activities.
  • Prepare scopes of work, technical specifications, and project documentation.
  • Support project planning by identifying tasks, estimating effort, and tracking progress.
  • Communicate regularly with clients to clarify requirements and provide status updates.
  • Review and update process control documents, including PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment schedules.
  • Ensure designs follow applicable codes, standards, and project guidelines.
  • Contribute to internal improvement efforts such as templates, tools, and design standards.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field (Electrical, Chemical, Computer, or Controls preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial automation or process control.
  • Proficiency with PLC, HMI, SCADA, or DCS platforms (Rockwell or Cimplicity experience is advantageous).
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and produce control system documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with clients.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with collaboration tools is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel up to 25%.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Schneider, Allen‑Bradley (including PlantPAx), ICONICS, or Wonderware systems.
  • Background in commissioning, startup, or field testing.
  • Exposure to industrial sectors such as water/wastewater, chemicals, or oil and gas.

Compensation

Competitive salary based on experience, with bonus potential and opportunities for career advancement. Total compensation includes profit‑sharing and participation in an employee ownership program. $105,000 - $140,000+
