Interconnection Manager

About the Opportunity

A rapidly growing international engineering and advisory organization focused on electric power infrastructure is seeking an experienced Interconnection Manager to support transmission, renewable energy, and grid modernization projects across North America.

The organization works with utilities, developers, investors, system operators, and other energy stakeholders on a wide range of complex transmission and generation integration initiatives. Their project portfolio includes transmission expansion, renewable energy integration, grid modernization, power system planning, and energy infrastructure development.

As demand for grid infrastructure continues to grow, the Interconnection Manager will play a key role in guiding projects through interconnection processes while supporting technical, commercial, and development objectives.

Position Summary

The Interconnection Manager will lead and support interconnection activities associated with transmission infrastructure, generation resources, and large-scale energy projects. This individual will serve as the primary liaison between project teams and external entities including ISOs, RTOs, utilities, transmission providers, and other industry stakeholders.

The position requires the ability to coordinate study efforts, evaluate technical findings, identify project risks, and communicate interconnection requirements in a manner that supports project execution and commercial decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage interconnection strategies for transmission, generation, energy storage, and other grid-connected infrastructure projects.
  • Coordinate interconnection requests, study agreements, and related technical submissions with regional market operators and transmission providers.
  • Facilitate communication between project teams, consultants, utilities, and regulatory stakeholders throughout the interconnection process.
  • Review and assess system impact studies, facilities studies, and network upgrade requirements.
  • Evaluate project implications related to transmission constraints, reliability requirements, schedule considerations, and cost exposure.
  • Lead coordination efforts among engineering, development, commercial, legal, and project management teams to resolve interconnection-related issues.
  • Support technical discussions and negotiations with utilities, market operators, and transmission owners.
  • Identify risks associated with queue position, upgrade requirements, study assumptions, and project schedules, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Provide interconnection expertise to support project development activities, due diligence efforts, and pursuit opportunities.
  • Translate complex technical findings into actionable recommendations for project stakeholders and leadership teams.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving interconnection policies, market rules, and transmission planning initiatives across North American markets.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable technical standards, regulatory requirements, and project governance processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a similar technical discipline.
  • Approximately 7+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Interconnection management
    • Transmission planning
    • Utility engineering
    • Power system studies
    • Grid integration
    • Energy project development
  • Strong understanding of North American interconnection procedures and transmission planning processes.
  • Experience supporting or managing interconnection requests, study reviews, network upgrade evaluations, or utility coordination efforts.
  • Familiarity with one or more organized electricity markets or utility interconnection frameworks.
  • Knowledge of transmission systems, reliability considerations, power flow analysis concepts, protection requirements, and grid operational constraints.
  • Ability to assess technical study outcomes and communicate impacts related to project scope, cost, schedule, and risk.
  • Proven stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel periodically for project meetings and client engagements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting large-scale transmission, renewable energy, battery storage, offshore energy, or other utility-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with project development processes, technical due diligence, and investment-stage evaluations.
  • Established relationships within the utility, transmission, developer, or independent system operator community.
  • Exposure to high-voltage transmission projects, grid expansion initiatives, or emerging energy technologies.

Work Arrangement

  • U.S.-based position.
  • Remote or hybrid work arrangement available.
  • Travel required based on project needs, stakeholder engagement, and business objectives.
